There are many carbon steel forged flanges in the market, some with good quality and some with poor quality, but not all the customers know how to check it.  We always accept the third-party inspection appointed by the customer and cooperate with the inspector to do the inspection job and do self-inspection in our factory before shipped the flanges into our customer’s hand, we would like to share the following typical methods we did with you.

1. Visual inspection

In order to save the cost, a lot of factories did not buy the steel plate or billet from qualified steel company but purchase the wasted material( iron scrap which was cutting from semi-finished flange) as the raw material of forged flange, which will lead the density of flange is lower a lot than the forged flange are produced by high quality steel billet or plate, there will have a lot of air hole on the surface and inside of flange, it is very risky to use this type of flanges during the project, which will have the risk of leak water or oil during the transportation of liquid. we can see these holes by our eyes as primary inspection.

2. Liquid Penetrant Test

Another good method to check the real forged flange is Liquid Penetrant Test.  We will find the small crack and other material flaws apparently by applying dye penetrat liquid on the clean surface of flanges if the flange is not real forged, otherwise the flange is real forged.
